In the year 1998, following the death of Zordon and the defeat of the United Alliance of Evil, it seemed as if the Machine Empire was gone for good. However, there were a few survivors: one of them, Voltagium, escaped alongside a few Cogs to an abandoned planet littered with garbage from assorted parts of space, where they discovered that, somehow, their kind thrives in the planet’s polluted atmosphere, which makes them stronger. Thus, over the course of the following 11 years, Voltagium set out to rebuild the Machine Empire, encompassing an entire robotic army set on avenging their predecessors by invading Earth and polluting it to a degree that humans can no longer inhabit it, allowing the Machine Empire to make it into their new home.
In the present day, following the finalization of her parents’ divorce as well as the increasingly frequent attacks of animalistic monsters in their former hometown of Ocean Bluff, 18-year-old Ola Irwin moves to the city of Copper Falls, Oregon, with her mother in order to start life anew. There, alongside new neighbor Ricky Sheppard and his ten-year-old sister Carly, she discovers that not only there are monsters attacking the city as well, but that it also has its own set of Power Rangers protecting it: the Power Rangers RPM, a trio of childhood friends whose powers are derived from semi-sentient racing performance machines from the planet of Eltar, the Engine Zords. Despite initial reluctance, Ola and Ricky eventually agree to join their ranks, and together, the five must come together as a team, with just enough drive and passion, in order to prevent Voltagium and his forces from having their way.
The five Rangers are eventually joined by Gabe and Raph Darcy, children of Copper Falls' mayor, who earn powers of their own and become the Gold and Silver Skylight Rangers, piloting the technologically-advanced Sky Engine Zords.
